Happy
Birthday
to me

My cousin gave me a disposable camera as a birthday gift. This is what happened to the roll.

Issue 01 — Birthday · brunch · volleyball in Jersey

Ariana brought a disposable camera. The city did the rest. This is also a document about what it means to turn 29 and want more from yourself.

I — The
Pineapple
Club

birthday brunch · pink placemats · a gift wrapped camera
Fig.01Ariana. Finance, tech, customer support, model, diva, girly pop, cousin — in roughly that order. She gave me this camera. She's the reason any of this exists.
Fig.02The table. Pink placemats, water glasses, menus that nobody's read yet. The best birthday configuration.

After brunch, the afternoon had nowhere to be. So we wandered downtown until it did.

II — The
Afternoon

Rachana · Suhani · artsy corporate · outdoor drinks · the LES in the sun

Artsy
Corporate

Fig.03Rachana and Suhani at an outdoor table on the LES. The light was doing everything right. They always look like they're in a magazine they don't know they're in.
Fig.04Washington Square Park. Same arch, every time, never boring.

III — Ferry
to Jersey

birthday volleyball · across the water · the city getting smaller behind you
Fig.05The ferry. Manhattan fading into its own skyline. Someone brought a volleyball.
Fig.06Jersey City at dusk. The flag, the skyline, the marina. A whole city you forget about until you're standing in front of it.

IV — 30,
Actually

BIRTHDAY SHOTS · A POEM · NOTES ON TURNING 30
Fig.07Birthday shots. Soccer on the TV. Five people who showed up. That's the whole thing.

As a kid, I cared more about creativity and exploration than achievement. I dreamed of becoming a fashion designer or a doctor, and I loved making things simply because they excited me.

Today, I have a stable job, but I don't feel like that's the same as creating something that's truly mine. I miss the feeling of building things out of passion — like when I sold clothes on Etsy. Back then, I acted without overthinking, and my enthusiasm seemed to attract good outcomes.

I'm proud of what I've accomplished, but I know I still have room to grow. I've become more humble, and I believe lasting success comes from consistently devoting yourself to your craft — not from ego or chasing recognition.

This year, I'm choosing to celebrate myself instead of waiting for validation from others. I believe my 29th year will be a meaningful one, filled with growth, creativity, and intention.

What happened afterward fits that theme too. I moved into my new sublet, felt the urge to smoke, paused — and realized I didn't actually need to. Instead of escaping the moment, I chose to experience it. A small decision, but consistent with the person I want to be: intentional rather than simply reacting to every impulse.

Create more.
Overthink less.
Stay humble.
Trust your own path.
Celebrate yourself first.

r(θ,t) = ct + ε sin(kθ)

One choice. Infinite ripples.

The ripple remembers the stone. Every decision — the camera, the brunch, the ferry — propagates outward into things you can't yet see.
